The Interview Q&A
Where are you primarily based out of?
I’m actually based out of Toronto, Canada!
What role do you typically play on set?
Composer, producer, artist, songwriter…”music” would be the umbrella
How long have you been working in the film industry? Where did you get your start?
For about 4-5 years now in Film/tv/advertising and multimedia platforms - over the past couple years I’ve been honing in specifically in score for film. Honestly Music has been my entire life and I was composing music since I was a young child - the seeds were planted early on!
Who is your biggest inspiration? What have they taught you?
Honestly there are many music creatives who I look up to and are so inspired by…artist turned composers like Jonny Greenwood, Atticus Ross & Trent Reznor, composers like Isobel Waller-Bridge, Emile Mosseri, Mychael Danna, Rachel Portman…I think one of the primary underlying foundations for all has been the demonstration that being a creative professionally does not just mean being creative…it’s follow-through, it’s finishing.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
All over! Books I’m reading, music I’m listening to, series and films I’m watching - food (making it and consuming it!), my good friends, family, our lives - going for drives, going for walks. It’s all in there.
What’s are some of the biggest things you’ve accomplished in your career so far?
Honestly, I think my definition of “accomplishment” has shifted and evolved over time…there have been wonderful milestone moments peppered throughout my journey thus far, like being on the Recording Academy’s FYC ballot last year or having a film I provided additional score to premiere at SXSW several months ago…but also, working on projects I’m particularly passionate about. That’s been something this whole year has been about. It feels like a big accomplishment for me because it felt like I was a “yes (wo)man” to everything for so long.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now? (No dream is too big!)
Somewhere on the water! I think I’ve got a dog named Felix.
If you had one piece of advice for a woman who wants to get started in the film industry what it would be?
All no’s are yeses in disguise. We have the power to uncover them.
