The Interview Q&A
How long have you been working in the film industry? Where did you get your start?
“Close to a decade! Funny story, my good friend had approached me about her Casting studio in Miami needing assistance. I had just graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management and Event Planning. I told her I knew nothing about TV or film - but I could learn. The very next day I showed up to what would be my first day of work. My tasks were easy that day: Checking models into the lobby waiting room, filling out paperwork, and making sure the day went according to schedule. At the end of the day, my boss said to me, “What are you doing tomorrow?” The next day I was placed inside the studio beside my friend, who was Directing a Casting. I was told to watch, take notes and learn. I was terrified and confused. But I loved every minute of it - And oh did I learn.”
Who is your biggest inspiration? What have they taught you?
“My biggest inspiration would have to be my boss. He has owned his Casting Agency for almost 40 years in multiple cities in the US. He has clients from all over the world. He has Cast thousands of projects: Music videos, commercials, movies, series - everything. He taught me everything I know.”
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
“My friend/partner in the Casting Studio. The person who got me my job. I sat beside her in the Casting studio for years - If those walls could talk! She poured years of knowledge into me. I acted like a sponge and absorbed everything. She inspired me to become a successful and professional Casting Director just like her.”
What are some of the biggest things you’ve accomplished in your career so far?
“I have been a part of thousands of projects. I have worked with some of the most powerful brilliant directors and producers from all over the world. I have watched the most exotic talented actors and models perform in front of me. A huge accomplishment is knowing that every single day in the studio - where we worked long and brutal hours - was all worth it when I saw my beautiful work on TV.”
Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now? (No dream is too big!)
“In 5 years from now, I see myself directing movies in LA!”
If you had one piece of advice for a woman who wants to get started in the film industry what it would be?
“My advice is never to give up. Always show up to any opportunity given to you. Learn to learn - school is fantastic and reading books is educational. But, real knowledge is learned from real-life experiences. Oh, and always be kind to others!!! You never know. One day you can be sitting in a room with a stranger. And then the next day, they just might offer you a job!”
